MOH 2017

The Men of Hope Campaign (MOH) is the highest recognition presented by Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation (HKAHF) and was established in 2016. The MOH Award is to recognize individuals from all sectors of the community, including businesses, non-profits, environmental, community groups and individuals. All our MOH have in some way committed to helping others with their ongoing contributions to the local community, through their charity efforts and in raising awareness of issues affecting the underprivileged today. All pledge and donation proceeds raised on the day will go towards our Adventist Heart Fund, which helps support patients undergoing heart surgery.

Event Partner

Friends of Asia is a non-profit organization seeking to provide resources, care, and opportunity to those in need, with programming centered around sports, health and recreation. This is accomplished by promoting awareness for these needs as well as raising money to alleviate them. Together with the efforts of generous donors and volunteers, as well as proceeds from strategic fundraising events, we seek to establish crucial health / physical education and recreational programming that brings smiles, joy and well-being to those less fortunate in our community.

Setting Footprints for Children and Youth through Sports

Friends of Asia Hong Kong is a registered charity that seeks to provide resources, care and opportunities to those in need and help better their lives physically, mentally and spiritually. Our mission is to inspire and benefit the local community through the development of events and programs that centers around sports, health and recreation which in turn will raise the public’s awareness to the importance of healthy living and illness prevention.

Partnering with major sports events as our fundraising platform, we have funded many non-profit-making sports and wellness programs for underprivileged children, youth, women and families in Hong Kong. With these programs, we aim to encourage and empower people to live longer and healthier lives and nurture our youths to build a community that is rich in values and positive energy.

Friends of Asia Hong Kong is partnering with the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation in one of their annual events – Men of Hope. The Friends of Asia Men of Hope Award will be awarded to honour and recognise distinguished male athletes who, through their achievments in sports, can give children and youth hope, inspire them to dream, persevere and excel.

FOA MOH Awards – Timothy Ho Chu-Ting

Timothy Ho Chu-Ting, who excels in both speed and freestyle skipping, has become an icon of the sport in Hong Kong after his success at the championships in the US. Timothy is the first Chinese athlete who won the World Champion in 2012 and 2014 for two consecutive World Rope Skipping Championship events. In 2012 he set the world record of 500 skips in 3 minutes in Tampa, Florida when he was only 17 years old and continued to maintain his record in 2014. In addition to his own personal achievements, he also lead his team to succeed in the group events. Under his leadership, the Hong Kong Team 01 managed to win the Men’s Group Championship and broke the world record for three years in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

As one of Hong Kong’s most outstanding athletes, Timothy’s achievements have been widely recognized by the public. In 2016, he received recognition from the Secretary for Home Affairs for his remarkable achievements in sports. In 2017 he became the first Rope Skipper and the only Chinese athlete to sign a professional contract with RED BULL as a professional sportsman in rope skipping.

Growing up in Tai Po, Timothy was more interested in rope-skipping than studying. He began skipping as a hobby in Primary Two and started to develop a strong feeling for the sport when he was offered the chance to participate in his first Asian championship in India, where he won First Place in the Under 14’s team competition. He then joined the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Club and despite 11 years of training, he is never bored of skipping and he often spends a lot of time with his teammates creating new freestyles and improving their skills.

Timothy is very grateful to his parents who showed him full support in what he likes doing rather than force him to excel academically. He accredits his own success today to hard work, determination and endurance, all of which he developed since he started rope-skipping. He believes that sport not only improves physical fitness but also helps to establish self-confidence, perseverance and responsibility. As a successful athlete, he wants to give back to the community by using his influence to encourage more people to play sports. He is one of the Athlete Ambassadors for InspiringHK Sports Foundation where he often participates in their sports events for underprivileged kids. He has also volunteered his performance in many charity events such as the World Heart Day 2016, UBS Hong Kong Open Community Day and other occasions where he can engage the public in paying more attention to sports. He hopes to inspire the next generation of Hong Kong juniors to follow his footsteps, learning how to incorporate sports into everyday life and ultimately driving positive change to our community.
